A Few Thoughts on Faith

We love him because he first loved us. (1 John 4:19)

We didn't love God first; He loved us first and drew us to Him by His Spirit. In other words we didn't seek God first, He came for us.

Similarly, faith isn't something we just conjure up on our own. Faith comes to our hearts by the work of the Holy Spirit who witnesses to our spirit of the truth of God's Word and gives the assurance that God means what He says and is more than worthy of our trust.

The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit... (Romans 8:16)

As we know God more and we see His faithfulness in our lives over and over again, the experience of the goodness of our promise-keeping God and the continued witness of the Spirit makes that faith grow deeper and stronger in the One who loves us.

True faith rests upon the character of God and asks no further proof than the moral perfections of the One who cannot lie. It is enough that God has said it. -A.W. Tozer
