Daily Selah -Who Am I?

Daily Selah is a mini-devotional, a pause to ponder about the Lord and how He wants us to live.

When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers,
the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;

What is man, that thou art mindful of him?
and the son of man, that thou visitest him?-Psalm 8:3-4

Who Am I?

Scientists have spent many years trying to study and classify many parts of God's creation. Think for a moment about the size of a tiny amoeba in comparison to you and me. According to Kenyon College's MicrobeWiki, the average amoeba proteus is about 0.2 to  0.3 millimeters in diameter, too small to see without a microscope.

Now think about how big and how powerful God is in comparison to you and me. All we really know of God is what He has revealed to us in His Word and from His touch upon our individual lives. God has infinite power, knowledge and wisdom far above our limited human thinking. We may try to explain who we think He is, but human thinking and words just cannot fully comprehend or define Him.

Let's take a second look at the passage we read above in a bit more modern language:

I look up at your macro-skies, dark and enormous,
    your handmade sky-jewelry,
Moon and stars mounted in their settings.

    Then I look at my micro-self and wonder,
Why do you bother with us?
    Why take a second look our way?
-Psalm 8:3-4 (MSG)

Did you catch that? In comparison to God, you and I are microscopic. Why does God bother with us or take a second look our way? It is not because of who we are or because of anything we have done. How could such small, insignificant, microscopic beings such as me and you ever hope to reach His standards? Why does God even bother taking time for us? The answer is LOVE.

Thank You, Father, for bothering with me. Thank You for loving me even though I don't deserve it. You are amazing God and, in comparison to You, I am less than the amoeba You created. Thank You for taking time for me, showing me Your love and grace and hearing me when I call upon Your Name. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
