In Your Hand

My times are in your hand - Psalm 31:15

About a month ago, I changed departments at work. One of my new duties is staff schedules. If you've ever done any employee scheduling, you know how challenging it can be to make sure each shift is covered, everyone gets their hours and the team is happy.

When it comes to times, seasons, and events, have you ever noticed that God doesn't seem to worry about how tHis plans fit in with our schedules?

He tells us why in His Word:

I am God, and there is none like me,
 declaring the end from the beginning
    and from ancient times things not yet done,
saying, ‘My counsel shall stand,
    and I will accomplish all my purpose,’
...I have spoken, and I will bring it to pass;
    I have purposed, and I will do it.
- Isaiah 49:9-11 ESV

You and I only see a part of our own personal timeline. We know what we have experienced and what is happening in our lives today, but we don't know what will happen tomorrow, next week, next year or a decade from now. We don't even remember our own birth.

God remembers all that has gone before because He was there. He knows what will happen in the future because He has already seen it. He declares "the end from the beginning."

Since He knows and has seen every part of our lives, who better to trust to make plans for us?

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord,
plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
-Jeremiah 29:11 ESV

When David wrote and sang, "My times are in Your hand," they weren't just random words to fit the melody in his head. Those words came from a heart that had placed all trust in God. Look at what David say before and after this declaration:

But I trust in you, O Lord;
    I say, “You are my God.”
My times are in your hand; rescue me...
Make your face shine on your servant;

    save me in your steadfast love!
-Psalm 31:14-16

David knew that God's timing is impeccable and he believed that God would take care of him.

God always shows up and just the right time and always acts on behalf of those who love Him in His perfect time.

David trusted Him. You can too!
