I'm no musician and, I promise, you wouldn't want to hear me sing - ever. I'm one of those people who literally make a joyful noise unto the LORD (see Palm 100:1).
But, I do know good music when I hear it and really enjoy it.
Did you know God enjoys good music too? Music, in one form or another, is mentioned over 1,000 times in the Scriptures. I'd say God places a lot of importance on music, wouldn't you?
Music brings Him glory. His Word says we should praise Him with instruments and with our voices.
Shout for joy to God, all the earth;sing the glory of his name;give to him glorious praise! (Psalm 66:1)
God also wants us to use music to encourage one another.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. (Colossians 3:16 ESV)
For me personally, lifting up my voice in praise to the One who is worthy of all praise does something for me. No matter how bad things may seem sometimes, if I just begin to give Him the glory due His Name, I'm encouraged in my spirit and strengthened in my faith. Try it some time. If you're struggling, just start praising and see what God will do for you.
You want to know something really special about music? God enjoys music so much and He wants so much for us to be blessed by it, do you know what He does? Check out Zephaniah 3:17 ...
The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.
Now, how awesome is that!? We sing to Him and He sings to us! God sings over you! He sings over me! He created music for our enjoyment and encouragement and to prove it, He chooses to sing over us!
Music - good worship music - blesses us, blesses others, and blesses the Name of the Lord.
Let's make some music!
Father, thank You for giving us music to bless Your Name, to bless others and be blessed by it ourselves. Remind us LORD to sing a new song to You and to lift up Your high and holy Name each and every day. Help us to encourage one another as You have encouraged us. In Jesus' Name, amen.
{Daily Selah} is a mini-devotional, a pause to ponder about the Lord and how He wants us to live
