You are Valued

{Daily Selah}

What do you value most on this earth? Your house? Your car? Your bank account?

Do you know what Jesus values most on this earth?

Listen to what He says about you:

Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows (Matthew 10:29-31).

Many modern English translations of the Bible have translated the word "farthing" in that passage as "penny." Actually, a farthing is an old British coin which was worth just 1/4 of a penny.

Think about that for a moment. In Jesus' day a sparrow was worth 1/8 of a penny, yet he said not one of them would fall to the ground without the Father knowing and seeing it.

God cares for the sparrows, but "the very hairs of your head are all numbered." He pays more attention to you and me. He is so intimately acquainted with us that He knows exactly how many hairs are on our heads! He is really paying attention to us and He cares so much more than we realize.

Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.

Although we are not worthy of God's favor, He loves us anyway. We are so much more valuable to Him than all the sparrows in the world.

Not only does God love us so much that He sent His only son to die for our sin, 1 Peter 2:4 says we are precious to God. He loves us with a love that will never end (Jeremiah 31:3).

We sometimes may not feel very valued by other people, but God values us very highly. Because of the great love and value the Father places on us because of His Son, Jesus can say to you and me, "Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows."

Don't worry. Don't be afraid. God is paying attention. He sees. He knows. He loves you. He will take care of you.

You are valued.

Father, thank You for loving us, for watching over us and for providing for us. Help us to remember that You value us and will take care of us. Keep us from worry, doubt and fear and help us to trust You more and more. In Jesus' Name, amen.

{Daily Selah} is a mini-devotional, a pause to ponder about the Lord & how He wants us to live.
