Wake Up to Praise!

 Daily Selah

A rooster crows on a distant farm. The alarm disturbs our comfortable rest. We blink at the dawn with a sigh, "Oh, maybe I'll just hit the snooze button one more time." Mornings can be tough. I have a son who really should wear one of those hotel "do not disturb" signs for a while after he first rolls out of bed. After a shower, he's fine but until then keep your distance or you might just awaken a grouchy old bear :)

David was excited to get up early. The sound of a distant rooster thrilled his heart. Why? He was going to spend time with the LORD and in praise to Him.David met the dawn with a song in his heart.

O God, my heart is fixed; I will sing and give praise, even with my glory. Awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake early. I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people: and I will sing praises unto thee among the nations.-Psalm 108:1-3

What should our response be to the One who has given us everything?

We need to wake up to praise.

Father, thank You for Your mercies, new every morning. Thank you for all the many wonderful blessings You have so freely given us. You deserve our highest praise. You are the only One who is worthy of all glory, honor and praise. Father, remind us to seek Your face and worship You every morning. In Jesus' Name, amen.

Daily Selah is a mini-devotional, a pause to ponder about the Lord and how He wants us to live.

Shout praises to the Lord!

The alarm went off at 4:15 this morning and bleary-eyed, I wandered toward the kitchen. The dog flew off the couch, sped to the patio door, and did his Gotta-go-potty Dance. As I opened the door, I was greeted by the sound of chattering, chirping and singing. It seemed as if every bird within 5 miles had come to greet the morning in my backyard.

Psalm 148 came to mind as I stood there and enjoyed that feathered music of the dawn.

The first verse (in the CEV) begins with a command:
Shout praises to the Lord! Shout the Lord’s praises in the highest heavens.

The psalm continues with a mandate given individually to the angels, everything above the earth and everything in the earth, including all the birds God created. Then, it sums up those commands saying,
All creation, come praise the name of the Lord. Praise his name alone. The glory of God is greater than heaven and earth. (v14)

All creation includes you and me. Giving praise the LORD, the One who is worthy is not an optional activity. We are commanded to give God the glory and praise due His Name.

Our Lord and God,
you are worthy
to receive glory,
honor, and power.
You created all things,
and by your decision they are
and were created. (Rev 4:11)

So, getting back to that chorus of birds this morning... I enjoyed their songs, but they were not singing for me. They were singing for their Creator, the LORD God who is worthy of all glory, honor and praise!

Perhaps Psalm 148 was the inspiration for a song by Mercy Me entitled, All of Creation.
And all of creation sing with me now, fill up the heavens, let his glory resound!
Let's obey the command to come praise the name of the Lord. As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, every area of our lives should shout praise to Him, including what comes from our mouths.

Will you join me in singing His praises right now?
