Daily Selah ~ Wearing Humility

Daily Selah is a mini-devotional, giving us reason to pause and ponder
about the Lord
and how He wants us to live.

~ Wearing Humility ~

Likewise, ye younger,
submit yourselves unto the elder.
Yea, all of you be subject one to another,
and be
clothed with humility:
for God resisteth the proud,
and giveth grace to the humble.
-1 Peter 5:5

We tend to think of humility as not boasting about ourselves or our accomplishments. That is a part of it, but true humility goes much further. Pride can creep into our lives in ways we often don't recognize.

When someone says something unkind about you, it is pride that reacts. When something you wanted is given to someone else, it is pride that reacts. When someone is chosen for a position you wanted, it is pride that reacts.

God says we must be "clothed with humility."

How do we wear humility? It shows in our response when things don't go as we planned or as we would have preferred.

Jesus clothed Himself in humility when He left the splendor of heaven to be born in a filthy stable, live among us and give His life for us.

Do we follow His example? How well do we wear the humility God requires of us?
