Beware...

Daily Selah is a mini-devotional, a pause to ponder about the Lord and how He wants us to live.

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing,
but inwardly they are ravening wolves. - Matthew 7:15

Most of us know about cults and could probably name a few quite easily, without much thought.

But, are we so quick to recognize false teaching when it creeps into what we thought were good, Bible teaching churches?

Do we know God's Word well enough to have a standard by which to judge the message we hear?

Many Christians don't have as good a foundation in the Word as they perhaps could, leaving them vulnerable to wolves in sheep's clothing.

Recently, I heard of a new ideology making inroads into evangelical circles. It is called Chrislam and as you may have surmised from its name, it is an attempt to combine Islamic beliefs with Christianity.

My first thought is that such a union would be impossible but it is happening right now in America. Christian faith hinges upon the deity of Christ, His atoning death on the cross and His resurrection. Islam denies that Jesus is God and they also refuse to accept that He was crucified for the sins of the world. I have no desire to create a huge debate on this blog, but If you'd like to know how I really feel about trying to combine these 2 faiths with nothing in common, read 1 Timothy 4:1.

In Psalm 119:11, David said, Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

Knowing God's Word and staying in close communion with Him is also the best, and really the only way, to protect ourselves from false teaching. Make a plan today to get more and more in His Word so more and more of His Word will be in you and lived through you.

Father, thank you for showing us Yourself through Your Word. Give us a hunger for more and a desire to know Your Word and Your ways. Protect our hearts and minds from false teaching and give us discernment to recognize those things that are not from You. In Jesus Name, Amen.
