They say everybody needs a friend. They say it because it's true.
We all need a friend; someone to rejoice with us, someone to mourn with us. someone to laugh with us, someone to cry with us.
And, we all need someone to encourage us.
That encouragement may come in the form of a push in the right direction, a cheer when we achieve or an admonishment when we make a mistake.
Good friends sharpen one another. They make each other better. We all need friends like that; friends who will encourage us to become more like Christ. That's what the writer of Proverbs was talking about when he said,
Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another. -Proverbs 27:7 ESV
But, we're not just supposed to be on the receiving end while a friend sharpens us. We're supposed to be sharpening others too. Get sharper and get sharpening :)
Father, thank You for giving us Your Word to teach us how to live for You. I thank You for the good Christian friends You have placed in my life, friends who sharpen me and encourage me to draw closer to You. Help me to bless them in the same way so we may grown more like Christ together, for Your glory. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
Daily Selah is a mini-devotional, a pause to ponder about the Lord and how He wants us to live.
