My children say it's nerdy. I say it's fun. Figuring out the clues. Finding the right word. Making sure it fits. I really enjoy crossword puzzles, word games and putting words together in writing. I just simply enjoy words.
As Christians, we need to be very careful how we use our words. Word can be used to build someone up or to tear them down.
"Wow! thanks for sharing that. That was just what I needed to hear!"
Has someone ever said that to you or have you said it to someone else?
"Why did you say that? I really didn't appreciate that."
Has someone ever said that to you or have you said it to someone else?
Proverbs 25:11 says,
A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.
Do the words we use bless others? Do they treasure what we say? Are our words of value?
When it comes to words, God has a few things to say about how we use them. Here's an example:
Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. -Ephesians 4:29.
Our words are supposed to edify and "minister grace to the hearers." How are we doing?
A word fitly spoken... Let's use the right words at the right time.
Father, thank You for giving us language so we can communicate with one another and with you. Help us to use our words to build up and not tear down. May our words minister grace to the hearers and bring You glory. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
Daily Selah is a mini-devotional, a pause to ponder about the Lord and how He wants us to live.
