When my middle son was a toddler, he really enjoyed taking a bath. He loved playing in the water so much, it was often hard to get him out of the tub. When he finally did emerge, he would say, "Look, Mama. I all clean!"
We do whatever we can to make sure we are clean on the outside, which is a good thing, but God wants us clean on the inside too.
Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow... (Isaiah 1:18).
Every one of us has sinned. As Romans 3:10 reminds us, There is none righteous, no, not one.
But God made a way for us to be forgiven and to be made clean before Him. How did He do that? He sent His only Son to take the punishment we deserve for our sin.
Faith in Christ and what He did in His death and resurrection makes us forgiven, free, washed and clean.
As those who have been forgiven, we are not yet perfect. Sin has no more dominion over us and it has no place in the lives of believers.
It should happen less and less frequently as we spend more and more time with our Savior, but sometimes we do sin. But praise God, we know we have a place to go to be washed and made clean again.
1 John 1:9 is a promise made to those who have believed in Christ for salvation:
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
To paraphrase Isaiah 1:18, we could say, "Hey. Think about it. Don't hang onto the filth of sin. Give it up. Be free and clean."
Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow... (Isaiah 1:18).
Be free and clean.
{Daily Selah} is a mini-devotional, a pause to ponder about the Lord and how He wants us to live.
