You're good at some things. I'm good at doing other things. There are some things you can do that I may not be very good at and vice versa.
God has given each of us unique abilities and unique spiritual gifts to be used for His glory, not our own.
In today's world, we often speak of self confidence, self esteem and self worth. Each of those concepts are based on human reasoning, not on God's way of thinking.
Self worth? God says there is only One who is truly worthy...
Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing (Revelation 5:12).
Self esteem? You won't find it encouraged anywhere in God's Word. However, He does say, let each esteem other better than themselves (Philippians 2:3).
Self confidence? That man made concept is also in opposition to God's way of thinking. He says, In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge (Proverbs 14:26).
It makes a lot more sense to place my confidence in God than trust in myself. I make mistakes and I don't always know what's best. There are days when I am tired and times when I don't feel very strong. I'm honestly grateful that I don't have to rely on myself. God doesn't make mistakes. He knows far more than I do, He sees what I don't see and His power and strength is limitless.
In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge (Proverbs 14:26).
Father, help us to find confidence in You alone and not to rely on our own flesh. Thank You for being our refuge, our strength and our confidence. In Jesus' Name, amen.
{Daily Selah} is a mini-devotional, a pause to ponder about the Lord and how He wants us to live.
