Be Still

{Daily Selah}

God...
...stilleth the noise of the seas, the noise of their waves, and the tumult of the people (Psalm 65:7).

When my children were small, we lived at the very edge of our town. From our backyard, we could walk straight onto some trails that wound through the woods behind. We would walk quietly together, trying to identify the sounds we heard. One of the boys would whisper, "Did you hear the robin calling?" or, "Shh... I think there's a deer over there" or, "Hey, look... a black squirrel."

Away from the noise of the people, cars, buses and trains of the town, everything seemed so peaceful and still.

In the busyness and circumstances of life, it can be hard to find a place like that - a place that is peaceful and still.

According to Psalm 65:7, God stills the noise of the seas, the noise of the waves and the tumult of the people. He brings peace.

Many people are in turmoil, worried about their current situation, looking back to where they've come from, and frightened of the future.

It doesn't have to be that way. We serve a God who knows how to bring calm, peace and stillness to hearts and lives.

The God who commands the storm is the same God who sent His Son to die in our place so we could have peace with Him and peace within. When we are in turmoil, looking at the waves crashing all around us, He says, "Peace, be still."

Jesus said, "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid" (John 14:27).

Whatever you're allowing to keep you in turmoil, give it to Jesus. Let Him give you his perfect peace instead.
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee (Isaiah 26:3).

Focus on Him, not on the noise of the waves.

He ...stilleth the noise of the seas, the noise of their waves, and the tumult of the people (Psalm 65:7).

Be still.

{Daily Selah} is a mini-devotional, a pause to ponder about the Lord and how He wants us to live.
