Happy New Year, everyone!
No New Year's celebration is complete without the familiarly comforting lines of an old favorite, Auld Lang Syne.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne!
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne.
We'll take a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.
Written by Scotsman Robert Burns over 200 years ago, Auld Lang Syne remembers the happiness of days gone by as it greets a new year with its melody.
In this new year, 2015, God wants to give us a new song to sing. Psalm 149:1 says,
Praise ye the Lord. Sing unto the Lord a new song, and his praise in the congregation of saints.
Why should we sing our praises to Him? This is the King who made us (v 2), who "taketh pleasure in his people" and who will "beautify the meek with salvation" (v 5).
No matter how 2014 went for you, remember this: our God is in the business of doing new things. He says,
Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert (Isaiah 43:19).
Let's give 2015 to the Lord, the King who takes pleasure in His people and who wants to do new things in this new year in us, for us and through us.
Sing unto the Lord a new song!
{Daily Selah} is a mini-devotional, a pause to ponder about the Lord and how He wants us to live.
