And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God. -Philippians 1:9-11 ESV
Praying for one another
We
know we should pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ. We know
we can come boldly before the throne of grace and present their needs
and ours to the Father.
But
how should we pray for spiritual needs, those areas in which we all
need to grow? Paul provides a great example in these verses. He wants
more for his friends. He prays they will be more loving, more
discerning, more pure etc.
Shouldn't
we want more of the same in our lives and in the lives of other
believers in Christ? For them and for ourselves, we should be asking,
“Lord, give us more.”
Father,
thank You for all You have given us in Christ. I ask that You would
help us never to be too comfortable in our walk with You, but that we
would desire more. More love, more power and more of You. I pray for
the believer reading right now and ask that you would make them (and
me) more loving, more pure and more like Jesus, for Your praise and
glory. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
