Real Time Management

{Daily Selah}

In the bookstores, in magazines and even on television, it seems people are always talking about time management, whether in relation to raising your kids, your efforts on the job, or even juggling your social life.

God has a lot to say about time, too. Let's take a look...

God is not limited by space and time as we are. He is eternal and knows the end from the beginning. So why is it that He mentions "time" in over 700 places in His Word?

God created time in increments of days, months, seasons and years. He didn't create these measurements of time for His own benefit, but for ours. Why? The answer is found in James 4:14.

What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.

Our existence on this earth is limited. God wants us to be aware that our opportunities are limited by that limited existence. He has provided us an opportunity to know Him, to be saved from the consequences of our sin and to repent, placing our faith in the risen Lord Jesus Christ and to become His children. He sent His Son to die in our place at just the right time.

But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. (Galatians 4:4-5 ESV)

According to Ephesians chapter 5, God has some requirements for us as His own dear children. We are to love, walk in the light, produce fruit that is good, right and true, avoid the unfruitful works of darkness, be filled with the Spirit, give thanks to God, and love one another.

In addition to being right and doing what is right in God's sight, we have also been given a task of global significance. We are ambassadors for Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20) and have been given the task of taking the good news of Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth (Mark 16:15). This is the reason for the admonition given in Ephesians 5:15-17:

 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

Our earthly existence is limited. Our opportunities are therefore limited.  We need to make the best use of the time we have been given.

That's real time management.

Father, thank You for sending Your Son at just the right time. Help me to use the time You have given me in the best way, for Your glory and for Your kingdom. In Jesus' Name, amen.

{Daily Selah} is a mini-devotional, a pause to ponder about the Lord and how He wants us to live.
