One day, the disciples came to Jesus and asked Him a question that has been on the minds of many Christians in recent times.
They wanted to know when He would return. and asked, "Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?" (Matthew 24:3).
If you read the rest of that chapter, you will find that many of the signs Jesus pointed to are in place in the world right now. Jesus also said, "But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only" (Matthew 24:36). Those who say He's coming on a certain date are obviously wrong. However, I do believe He could return very soon.
Three times in the book of Revelation, Jesus reminds us of His soon return.
Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown (Revelation 3:11).
The question is, are we ready for His return?
Jesus said, "...hold that fast which thou hast..." What is it that we're supposed to "hold fast"?
Think about what we have in Him. We are covered by His blood, clothed in robes of righteousness, seated in heavenly places with Him, sealed with the Holy Spirit and provided with the whole armor of God.
When Jesus says, "hold fast," He is telling us to stand strong in the faith, stand strong on His Word, live faithfully for Him and to hang on because He is coming soon.
The apostle Paul's greatest desire was "that I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death" (Philippians 3:10).
That's the way I want Jesus to find me when He returns - living in victory by resurrection power, having died to self and serving and being willing to suffer for my Savior.
We may have trials in this life and may have to face some things we'd rather not but our focus isn't just on what we see right in front of us. As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we should be "Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ..." (Titus 2:13).
Hang on. He's Coming.
{Daily Selah} is a mini-devotional, a pause to ponder about the Lord and how He wants us to live.
