Changed by Degrees

Daily Selah is a mini-devotional, a pause to ponder about the Lord and how He wants us to live.

And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord,
are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another.
For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
- 1 Corinthians 3:18 ESV

If you have read my testimony, you'll know that when I was younger, I spent a few years living in rebellion and as if I had never known God. When He brought me to repentance and back to Himself, there were some things that changed instantly - sins and habits that immediately lost their hold on me - but other areas that have changed gradually over time.  I'm far from perfect but I'm not what I used to be and I'm not yet what I'm going to be because He's still working on me.

Don't ever compare yourself to other Christians - not the ones who look like they've got it all together or the ones who appear not to have it together. Appearances can be deceiving. You and I don't know what's really in  a person's heart. Fallible human beings are not the standard by which God measures our lives. What matters to Him is whether or not we are walking in obedience to Him and allowing Him to change us from one degree of glory to another.

That description of the change God wants to see in us -  being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another - sounds complicated but it really isn't. What He's looking for is a surrendered heart who desires to be a better and better reflection of His Son.

Father, thank You for sending Your Son for us. Continue to work in us and through us to make us better reflections of Him. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen.
