As I stood in line at the polls (which extended up the street at one point), I had to wonder what was on the minds of the other people standing there waiting to make their voices heard through the ballot box.
Were they thinking of the impact this election might have upon the future for their children and grandchildren?
Then I began to wonder what the reaction might be of the ordinary citizen if we put Jesus on the ballot.
How many of us would vote for Him to be in a position of authority in our country, or even in our own lives?
John the Baptist voted for Jesus when he said, "He must increase and I must decrease" (John 3:30).
Paul also voted for Jesus and encouraged other believers to do the same. "Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving" (Colossians 2:6-7).
Although Peter denied Jesus right before the crucifixion, he went on to vote for and get on the campaign trail for Jesus.
"Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things... But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot..." (1 Peter 1:18-19).
"Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue..." (2 Peter 1:2-3)
The verses above are a good reminder of what Jesus has done for us. He, as the perfect Lamb of God, gave Himself as a sacrifice for our sin. He has saved us by His blood and given us all we need, including Himself, to live a life pleasing to God.
Does He have your vote?
I vote for Jesus.
Father, thank You for sending Your Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to die in my place. I am so grateful for all He has done for me. Help me to surrender and submit to His authority over every area of my life every moment of every day because He alone is worthy. In Jesus' wonderful Name, amen.
